For most of his 35-year career, Dr. Ravikant Zala’s work was contained within the walls of Zala Clinic in Panvel. One patient at a time. One diagnosis at a time. But over the past few years, he has been building something much larger — a national ecosystem for better allergy care in India.

The Gap He Noticed

Allergy as a specialty has been systematically underdeveloped in India. Despite enormous prevalence — affecting an estimated 30% of urban adults — most patients with allergic rhinitis, asthma, and food allergies are managed by general physicians or self-medicate. Specialist training is limited. Diagnostic tools are underused. And patients have no reliable way to find a qualified allergy specialist or carry their allergy history.

There are fewer than 500 practising clinical allergists serving a population of 1.4 billion. The opportunity — and the urgency — to bridge this gap is enormous.

Founding Allervita Education Foundation

In response, Dr. Zala founded the Allervita Education Foundation — a body dedicated to advancing allergy education, research, and clinical training across India. Co-founded by Dr. Mala R. Zala, the foundation offers:

  • Certified allergy courses for doctors — from basic allergy diagnosis to advanced clinical immunology
  • Hands-on training programmes at Zala Clinic, Panvel
  • Research collaboration and knowledge-sharing among India’s allergy community
  • Access to international evidence-based guidelines adapted for the Indian clinical context

The 1st Allergy Conclave — February 2025

February 22, 2025 marked a milestone in Indian allergy medicine. Dr. Ravikant Zala chaired the 1st Allergy Conclave in Mumbai — a national conference that brought together 300+ delegates including allergists, pulmonologists, paediatricians, and general physicians from across the country, along with international faculty.

  • 25+ expert speakers including national and international faculty
  • Expert panel discussions, poster presentations, and bite-sized sessions
  • 2 CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits for attendees
  • Supported by leading pharmaceutical sponsors including Allegra, Cipla, Takeda, and BSV
  • Organised under the banner of Allervita Education Foundation

Building Allervita — India’s First Allergy App

The next frontier is digital. Dr. Zala is co-founding Allervita — India’s first dedicated allergy digital platform — in partnership with technology company Odento.app. The app is designed to work on two levels simultaneously:

  • For healthcare professionals: Educational courses, CME modules, and clinical decision support in allergy and immunology
  • For patients: Allergy testing awareness, symptom self-assessment, and the ability to search and book verified allergy specialists nationwide
  • Digital Allergy Identity Card — a personalised health profile listing a patient’s confirmed allergens, reaction history, and emergency contact details
  • A national directory of allergy specialists — addressing the discovery problem that leaves millions of patients without specialist care

What This Means for Patients

For patients in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, and across India, Dr. Zala’s work beyond the clinic translates into tangible benefits: better-trained doctors who can diagnose and manage allergy correctly, greater awareness among the public about what allergy testing involves, and — through the Allervita app — the ability to carry a verified record of their allergies at all times.

Allergy care in India is at an inflection point. The Allervita Education Foundation, the Allergy Conclave, and the Allervita app are part of a coordinated effort to close the gap between the burden of allergic disease and the quality of care available. Dr. Ravikant Zala continues to see patients full-time at Zala Clinic in Panvel — while building the infrastructure to transform allergy care nationally.
